Good books for a 12 year old?

Diana Wynne Jones' Howl's Moving Castle series. A resounding success with my own progeny, and myself as well. After all, it isn't everyday you meet a genie with a Narcissus complex, a magician who doesn't know the first thing about babies and a king with a phobia for water... I highly recommend any of her books.
