• How has the American history of African slavery influenced our contemporary society? Provide three examples?

Concerns about civil rights as a social and political issue has been heightened in America since the 1800s. There has also been a rise in concern about "secret" slavery in reference to Americans working jobs, not simply for their own livelihood, but because the system gives them no other choice, particularly in the face of inflation, recession, and a reduction in hours and wages and retirement benefits. In the post-modern world, African slavery may be gone, but it may have been replaced by a more insidious and widespread form of slavery.
