Why do Catholics and Christians openly abhor the sentiment of God being female?

Many contemporary proponents of these religions (and other Abrahamic offshoots) adamantly proclaim that they are no longer sexist but cannot cope with the idea of God being a Goddess instead. I can't help bit find hypocrisy in this.
